The publication of PLAYING LOVE'S ODDS began my rather twisted and bizarre writing career. I had won the Golden Triangle Writer's Guild unpublished authors contest in 1992 with the manuscript which was called 'The Point of No Return' at the time, and had it requested by the finals judge from Harlequin Superromance. I submitted the full per her request and several weeks later received a rejection.

In the interim, I had entered another RWA chapter contest. And won. And had the manuscript requested by the finals judge from Meteor Kismet. I submitted the full per her request and six days later she called to buy. (A bit of trivia? When the book went into production, the buying editor was ill, and I was handed off to the senior editor - one Kate Duffy, with whom I am working at Brava!)

Two months later, I talked to the Harlequin Superromance editor at a local conference. She'd heard of my sale (I got around back then!) and asked why I hadn't submitted the manuscript to her. Needless to say I was floored that she'd never seen it! True to her word, she returned to Toronto and looked into the mix-up.
