Another year come and gone

Dana by AlphasmratThe birthday has come and gone, as has all the birthday fun! And if you think my cryptic comment yesterday about spending time with one of my birthday gifts was about play time? You would be wrong! Her name is Dana! And she came straight to me from eBay! *g*

I have posted the winner’s name for each of the birthday giveaways in the comments of the individual post. If you were hoping to win and did not “subscribe to comments” and already know that you did, check there for the winners’ names! Congratulations to everyone! I hope you enjoy your gifties as much as I’ve enjoyed mine.

I ate the last piece of one of my THREE birthday cakes tonight. The husband finished off one of the others. And let’s just say, the third found a new home as neither of us could stomach any more sugar! I did make the MOST awesome mango/peach/blackberry/strawberry smoothie today, though!! (Oh, and I hid the rest of the candy Taylor so neatly wrapped!)

If you’re a writer and you’re interested in taking your craft to a higher level, I have a special giveaway for later this week. Do check back!!

Ooh… Dana does look quite intriguing :)

Thanks again for sharing all the celebrating with us, and so glad you had as much cake as you could stomach! (That smoothie sounds completely delicious… *must find lid to blender…*)

Hope the coming year is as fulfilling!

Oh, I like Dana, which is kinda crazy cuz I’m not a writer but I love the toys (er, equipment) that comes with the job. I’m glad you had a fabulous birthday. Here’s to many, many more, with at least as many books to go along with them :)

Oh, man. I’ve been wanting one of those. I’ve made some noise about getting one to my husband, but he’s playing it cool. Either because he doesn’t plan on buying me one, or he’s trying to be sneaky and make me think he’s not getting me one. What a cool gift. Enjoy Dana. Glad you had a good birthday!

Oooooooh, I love the smoothie, sounds awesome! So are you one who sticks to a recipe or just throws it all in? :)

And although Dana looks cool, for someone who doesn’t know what is she? *runs and hides*

    No recipes!

And the Dana is a computer that’s not a computer. It’s an amazing keyboard, and the screen is only a few lines of text so you’re not tempted to edit everything you’ve done.

On the original Alphasmart, you couldn’t adjust font size or anything and only had four lines at a time (I think) visible. The Dana allows for more adjustment, and runs Palm OS so you can do a lot of other stuff if you want.

I don’t. I just use it to write. It’s portable and indestructible. And then you upload to Word via a USB cable. Very cool.

Sounds cool! hmmmm, if I asked for one for Christmas, everyone else could have the computer when they wanted it.

If only it were water proof, then I could write taking a bath.:)

Sounds like an awesome birthday for you(great gift and lots of cake); it was awesome for us who won also and congrats to the other winners.

You’re going to love your Dana. I don’t know why it took me so long to buy the Neo. Should’ve done it years ago. :)

I’ve been eyeing this on eBay as well. Not sure how to justify it to dh since I just got a new laptop a few months ago, but that would be much easier to take around and write on when I’m waiting for the kids at school.

I had a regular Alphasmart 3000 for a long time, finally broke the spacebar and couldn’t get it clipped back on to work properly. I still have one of the original Alphasmarts that are in the white cases, but it is a pain to upload from that one as I have to unhook my keyboard. It came before the days of USB, heh. I really lucked into this one. Ninety bucks on eBay and it’s working great!

Three birthday cakes? Sounds like your birthday was Sweet! Have to say that the smoothy sounds delicious too…I need lunch, now.

Happy Birthday! It seems I’ve missed tons being out of the loop for a week and a half. The move is over though, thank goodness.

I have a Quick Pad, which is like the Dana (the Dana is better) and I do love mine. It’s easy to take and write anywhere and then plug it in and hit the send button. Love watching the words fly across the screen onto my laptop. :)

Can’t wait to find out what you’ve got in store for us writers. And yes, count me in. I want to always take my writing to new levels.

Ack, the space bar! I always break the space bar on my keyboards first. :-( Dana’s not quite what I want to replace my aging handheld–in fact, what I WANT is another handheld. They’re all at least 10 years old by now, so this isn’t a longterm solution, unfortunately. But the touchscreens spoil me.

Oh, I LOVE the Dana touchscreen! Who knew how handy it would be! This is my newest object of lust.

Very nice, enjoy playing with Dana, Alison.

[…] Promotions come in all shapes and sizes and are limited only by the imagination of the writer. They can be big promotions such as the $4,000(!) blog anniversary prize drawing by David Airey, the graphic designer specializing in logo design, to small promotions such as Alison Kent, the master of promotion, giving away prizes for her birthday in Another year come and gone. I will enjoy my birthday on sept. 10th. Hope to have lots of cake. Don’t have a Dana but it sounds real cool.

  19. 19

How many lines of text does it show? And is it backlit?

  20. 20

Ohhh, your object of lust is wonderful! Battery life would be a problem for me, though.

  21. 21

It is backlit, but since I have eye issues I can’t tell how bright it actually is. I need a light shining down onto it, not up from behind it. So it’s dim to me, but then everything is dim to me, heh. I have the font set to 15 pt bold and can see about 10 lines I think. If it’s a smaller size, maybe 15.
