Notes from the Universe

Instead of daily horoscopes or cookie fortunes, I get notes from the universe. This one came last week and I loved it. Fits my writing philosophy to a T.

The thing about making it big, and doing it fast, Alison, is that invariably the first steps will be small and slow.

Which oddly, for many, is the same reason they don’t take them.

Last year my mother had three quilt tops, all left behind by my grandmother, quilted by a member of her church. Two of the quilt tops my grandmother had sewn herself. Those two quilts went to my daughters. One had previously gone to my daughter in law. This is a piece of the one I kept. It was put together by the ladies of a congregation where my grandfather preached. My mother said she was about 16 at the time (if I’m remembering correctly without digging out her note), which would make this quilt top around 60 years old. She remembers many of the names, though they mean nothing to me. I do use the quilt, cuddling up beneath it when watching TV, and keeping it folded in a chair and out of the way of food and dogs the rest of the time!

The husband gave me his flu. This is the sink after three days of tea and soup. Thankfully tonight neither of us have temperatures. This means tomorrow I will have to clean the kitchen.

Somebody’s sick, but it’s not me. Yet. The husband came home from a work convention with the crud. Lots of soup in his future.
