I’m going to start The Artist’s Way tomorrow. From the introduction to the 10th Anniversary Edition (which I’m reading tonight):
“Difficult as it is to remember, it is our work that creates the market, not the market that creates our work.
I’m also reading the Basic Tools (which you can download here in a pdf) and the Basic Principles.
There are two pivotal tools in creative recovery: the morning pages and the artist date. A lasting creative awakening requires the consistent use of both. I like to introduce them both immediately, and at sufficient length to answer most of your questions. This chapter explains these tools carefully and in depth. Please read it with special care and begin the immediate use of both tools.
I’ll try to post thoughts as I go through, and would love anyone who wants to be part of an informal creative cluster to join me.

I’m considering joining you. My creativity has been mediocre at best lately. Starting with 750words.com last month was part of an effort to jumpstart my writing. I’d forgotten about artist’s dates from when I’d read the book before. While I’m getting the “morning pages” done, it hasn’t parlayed into writing — yet.

I think I’d like to try this along with you. I’ve read The Artists Way but never applied the methods. I’m in need of changing things up in order to keep my writing strong while marketing and publicizing the release of my first novel. I feel like the business end is sucking the creativity out of me!

I read the introduction, the basic tools & principles last night, and then I got up to do other things rather than my morning pages – even though I did put a notebook and pen next to my bed last night.
The husband leaves for work between 9:00 and 9:30, so I like spending the mornings with him. That’s time I won’t get back, so I’d rather enjoy his company first thing, and then get started on my pages.
Which I’m off to do now!

I got my morning pages done today, but man it was tough. I really just wanted to lay in bed like a zombie. I wrote some interesting stuff though. I’d like to think I’d force myself into a new habit of writing at least an hour in the morning!

I got mine done and man did I blabber, but it was interesting to not let the pen stop for a minute. I probably could’ve gone for four!
I’m going to post more about AW later this week!
