August 1st – Wednesday Check-In

Today’s co-sponsor for our Wednesday check-in is Phaze author Victoria Blisse. Victoria has generously offered up three of her stories – PROVING SANTA EXISTS, GETTING PHYSICAL, and MASQUERADING HEARTS – as prizes to a couple of lucky sweating challengers. I’ll pick names on Thursday from everyone who weighs in by noon, CDT, 8/2.

Fun stuff out of the way, how we doin’?

Great! I was just up writing and I stayed up to wait for the check-in post.

    I’m at 3822 since last check-in and 18927 (goal 18000) since starting.

I got my 70 Days goodie box from Jo Leigh this afternoon (or technically yesterday, huh?) so hopefully sometime after I drag myself out of bed, a post with pictures.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

I suck :( I haven’t gotten any writing done since the last post but I have gotten most of the synopsis done for two new stories.

    Total Words: 27,547
    Per Day Average: 1,148

Back to writing tomorrow. Maybe I can get that average back up to 1500.

It’s an early check-in for me today, since I stayed up rather late watching the musings of late-night comedians.

Words since the Sunday check-in: 4,526
Total words since taking the challenge: 25,085
Happiness at the current totals: priceless.

Seriously– I’ve begun to stop worrying as much about word count, and more about plot. It was a harder transition to make at first, as I couldn’t put my finger on what was driving me batty about the challenge until the Sven Sunday post from HellenKay’s blog. I’m really thankful for the chance to pinpoint what was bugging me, and get the inspiration to work on wiping away that added stressfulness.

    Knock on wood.

Heh-heh. But for the moment, I’m happy as a freshly fed bat. ^^

Not doing too badly! Total of 22,774 words since the start, and a daily average of 948, which is brilliant considering how many days I’ve missed altogether…

Riding on a high wave of cheerfulness now though, due to a four and a half star review for one of my books in RT!!!

Not so good – I’m waylaid with a mysterious exhaustion just as my day job picks up speed. My total for the challenge is hovering at 30k right now, 5k less than I wanted by today. But I’m confident I can kick it – I’m still making steady progress, just with much smaller numbers than previously, and it’s that steady progress that is my goal here.

Crap, my first post got eaten. I’m not moving along as much this week do to a proposal, edits and a revision, but I’m up 3k on the Missing from Sunday. It’s at 37K now, so I’m nearly halfway done and it’s not due for five more months. :-)

I’m at work so I don’t have my exact numbers, but I’ve done over 5,500 since Sunday (half of which was a synopsis – but it’s still words, right? :-) That should bring me in at just under 30,000 for the challenge. :-) Woot, woot!!

I finished my WIP (titled: Nine) on Tuesday, 361 pages total since the challenge began. Started revising. Revised 50 pages since then.

And I started another one — short category. I’m trying long-hand with this one. About 3 pages done. :)

    Struggling.

I almost didn’t want to post a response this Wednesday. As far as I’m concerned, there’s been no word count change since this time last week. What I written since last Wednesday, I’ve also trashed. It sucked. (No, I’m not just being too hard on myself. The first 3 chapters, which = 11,200 words, I’m happy with. Yes, I’ll need to revise and improve in a later draft, but I’m happy with them for draft one. However, what I’ve attempted in the past week… sucks. :-( )

That said, I’m far from giving up. I’ll find a way to slay the dragon keeping me from getting Chapter 4 done. But it is a bit of a rough spot I’ve hit.

    So, word count remains: 11,271.

As today is the first of the month, release day for Whiskey Creek Press and Torrid, I’ve been busy getting everything ready. So I’ve written nada.

But, BECAUSE today’s the first, it means that I’m now free! Free as a bird! Well, until three weeks from now, lol, when it begins again. BUT, I’m going to work hard the rest of the week to try to get my week’s word count in. I have hope!

Checking in early so it’s done and I can get back to the writing I didn’t do yesterday. My word count since Sunday’s check in is 1,166. Now I just have to put butt in chair and write. Funny how well it works when you actually sit down and work, instead of just staring at the work from across the room just thinking about writing. Still don’t know the page count as the work is still in long hand.

I am still in a bad place with my writing. I overcame a huge roadblock and got moving ahead. I like where the story is headed and love that I know what is coming. It is just getting there. My word count is barely over 10,000 but I have faith I can jump forward in the next week.

So far for this week I have 3,505 added since Sunday. 29,055 for the total sweat this summer, and overall word count of 41,633. Leaving me with 58,367 to go. Not so bad since I’ve started. I’m a little behind this morning but I’m going to try to get 2,208 more words before the day is up. I don’t have to be at work for another hour and a half. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I hope every one else is having a good sweat this summer.

I plan to write for the novel the next three nights…..

I’m sitting just under 24K for the challenge so far. Nothing new since Sunday’s check in because I had to revise a story for submission. But I made that 7/31 deadline, thanks in a huge part to Sven! I re-read my other wip last night so I’m ready to dig in and get some new words. I’m also documenting a new story idea that slammed me right between the eyes.

I estimate I’ve done about ten more pages since Sunday, but I haven’t downloaded my Alphasmart yet so I’m not positive on the exact amount. I find I write more when I don’t know, so I’m going to upload on Saturdays.

In the meantime, I just keep telling myself, “You’re not done yet, keep writing.”

That’s what I’ve accomplished. However, while staying with my grandfather, I will try doing some work.

The tricky part will be remembering pages/word count, afterwords.

    Have a good day all!

I don’t know if I can make it to the Sunday check in. I will try though.

Not so good…but we had to polish the novella, and then we got galleys for our second book, both got edits on our individual projects…so we’ve been working, just haven’t been increasing page count much. We should have some halfway decent numbers by Sunday, though!

I am at 40%, caught up, and having a blast. Word count is around 24,500 for 25 days. I believe by the end of September, I am going to be averaging 8-10 pages a day total for all stories. A good thing. The challenge has really helped me. I got into the habit of posting everyday on my work, and I began making notes of what I had done and what I needed to do the next day. A good habit.

    Hope everyone is WRITING.

I finally managed to do some writing this week. Sunday was a busy day for me and I’ve spent the last few days recovering from it but I have written not much but enough to get one of the stories finished and edited then sent away with synopsis etc.. so since Sunday I’ve written 1784 words bringing my total up to: 11284.

Hopefully the rest of the week I am going to spend writing and catching up for lost time.

Not as much progress as I would have liked due to one of those serious moments that do temporarily take your mind from the writing. My mother-in-law is heading into a final decline (though she may still be with us for a while) and the reality has now begun to sink in for the husband and the father-in-law. Last night was spent providing the husband with support instead of revising.

That’s not an excuse; it’s a fact of life that I’m going to have to deal with in the months ahead. I’m going to have to make certain to include slip time in my schedule for those days when I have to put the writing aside because of those family considerations.
