The original Seventy Days of Sweat Challenge was posted on July 6th. On July 9th, we posted Seventy Days of Sweat – Important Posts – Please Read!. That post contained a link to several rules that I want to reiterate.
1. The cut-off date for signing up will be Friday, July 13th, midnight, CDT. I posted a SIGN-UPS CLOSED note to the link box on Saturday and on Sunday closed comments to the original entry. Now, even though official sign-up is closed, if you want to participate for the camaraderie and support, you are still invited to play along and post your word count on the appropriate days (and in the appropriate posts!). Only the participants whose names are posted in the link box above the SIGN-UPS CLOSED note are eligible for prizes, however. That said, we don’t want anyone to miss out on the inspiration, and invite everyone striving to write between 60K and 100K words by September 20th to join us!
2. Each Sunday there will be a blank post here where everyone needs to stop in and post their progress for the week. & Each Sunday there will be one name drawn to win a prize. That entry is where YOU MUST post your tallies, and it will be a different entry each week with the date and the day in the title. The reason for this is twofold. First, the comments to each week’s post will be where that week’s prize winner will be drawn from. Second, this gives everyone involved a way to click through to their challenge buddies and comment on their blogs, offering encouragement, etc.
3. Each Wednesday there will be a blank post here where you can stop in and post your word count. Same deal as above. The entry will have that day’s date in the title. This is simply a mid-week rah-rah session.
5. There will also be random pop-prizes (like pop quizzes but more fun!) awarded throughout the 70 days. That one’s easy. And I’ll give away a prize now! In the conference goodie room, I picked up copies of SECRETS Volume 14 & SECRETS Volume 16. I’m going to give them away to a commenter who posted her word count in the July 15th check-in! I’ll draw a name on Monday night, July 16th, 8:00 p.m.ish CDT.

Oops – I posted at my blog and didn’t here. My daughter was in an accident on Friday so I didn’t get any writing in over the weekend. On Friday night I didn’t sleep because I was so upset. She hit an electrical pole and had the tranformer hit the van, she’d been killed. It’s a miracle she lived. The whole front end of the van is damaged but we are thankful that she’s alive.
I was doing great before the accident and hope to get back to it today. Word count so far:
4,000

Diane – So sorry about your daughter! Yikes!! But SO glad she’s okay!

Okay, I was in Dallas when I was supposed to post my word count. But I was writing so where do I put it?

Each check-in post has the date and the day of the week in the title, so go to the main blog page (Blah Blog on the menu) and scroll down!

Diane, I had to read that twice, I saw killed and gasped. Here’s to a speedy recovery.
What happened to Sunday? I did a quick update on my blog (7,395) but didn’t come over here. Huh.
I’m now over 10K and there isn’t sex yet. I’ve still got three scenes to do.
1. take the kids swimming
2. share a hotel room while traveling
3. honeymoon
I had five scenes to do and while writing one of them, added another scene.
my a-ha moment was discovering how to give them more time together before jumping into bed. It happened way too fast in the first draft.

Gina – There was a post on Sunday with the day of the week and the date in the title. There will be a similar one each Sunday and Wednesday. Those are the official check in spots for everyone! To find them, just click the Blah Blog menu to get to the main blog page and scroll down!

I have a quick question about reporting word counts.
When I make a comment today (Wednesday), is the count supposed to include Wednesday’s work, or just through Tuesday. (I assume the same answer would apply to Sunday as well.)
Thanks!

You can do it either way! Some people report in after the day’s work, some before!

Alison,
Sorry, ::blush
I meant that I missed Sunday not that the post wasn’t here.

I just have to say thank you. I can’t remember where I was with Border Law (working title) when I started the 70 days. I felt like I was trudging along. But I am less than 500 away from 50k on my WIP and I will get that tonight. Yay!

Last Sunday (15th) I was at 9853 words. I forgot to post here though *sheepish*

Hi! I have greeeeeeaaaatttt news! I wrote! I have plot bunnies! Ideas are bouncing everywhere… and I have 1344 words. I know it’s not a lot, but way up from 400. Also the ideas.. And I had espresso after dinner, so I suspect some serious writing will be done.

Alison, As I posted over at Cuppacafe over here and then again over here. I’m furiously working away on my writing (10 illustrated scripts over the 10 weeks, not a single prose novel). I don’t have a word count, because I tend to write my scripts longhand (yea, I’m kind of analog in that regard).
I have two scripts completed, a third about a page from completion, and six installments of a (new) weekly web comic already written since the inception of the challenge. I’m hoping to have the third script and two more weekly installments of the web comic done tonight, and begin work on a fourth print comic shortly thereafter.
I love this challenge. I haven’t been this juiced in years.
Thanks Alison.
Going forward, I hope to have the specific information you are requesting on the days you have requested it to appear.

Sorry for not posting. I was in the middle of a move (still am) so my posting and writing are sporadic, BUT I planned for this downtime. I’m about 25K into my goal, but I’ll be picking back up again verra soon! I hope everyone’s doing great!
