July 11th – Wednesday Check-In

Post your total words written since the 8th in the comments below! (The number of words, not the words themselves!!!)

And feel free to mention a big A-HA! moment you hit during the week, a problem you’ve had to work through, a tip you found for keeping focused and getting the pages done and keeping the muse happy!

UPDATE: As far as what I’ve written . . . nothing on the 8th because this challenge took off like a rocket and I had to pin it down, 850 words on the 9th, about the same on the 10th but I write by hand and it’s not yet typed up. I plan to write in the car on the 5 hour trip to Dallas – but as you can see, I’ve got catching up to do!

Sven Says: DON’T BE AN ALISON!!!!!

Pop Prize!

I’ll be randomly choosing one sweating challenger who weighs in to receive a copy of either The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Writing Erotic Romance or my 12/06 Brava release Beyond a Shadow, but it’ll be Sunday when I’m home again before I get to doing that!

Well, I’m a day late but I was writing last night and then went to bed! Tired.

I have a post for all 4 days on my blog. And have written over 6,200 words. I am basically focusing on the pages. I have to do so many a day. Since the 8th, I’ve done 25 pages, all new.

    Things I learned.

    1. I do not edit except for grammar issues.
    2. It takes only 3 hours, which is my cut-off for this 70 Days Challenge. I have a huge garden waiting.
    3. Habit is the key.
    4. Writers need self-discipline.
    5. We must be alone to write, but it really helps to have a group like this supporting you. REALLY!!!!!!
    6. Joy is necessary.

    THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And GOOD LUCK.

I’ve managed 11,268 words since Sunday. I’m really excited about the progress of this story. My major Ah-Ha! moment came when I realize that I don’t write a lot of details in my first draft. I’ve had to beat my internal editor over the head, fighting to not go back and change things.

I started on Tuesday thinking I was going to start a new book, but yesterday while sitting in the waiting room of my DH’s doctor’s office I had a major A-HA! moment as I overheard two nurses talking about some kind of “itis”.
It occurred to me that I have “new-book-itis” — you know the symptoms, you’re current WIP has lost it’s magic and the next big idea is SO great and you’re itching to get started on it. So I’ve decided to tackle my “new-book-itis” by finishing two WIPs over the course of the challenge.

I started on the 9th and so far only have 2200 words so I’ve got some catching up to do!

Hi all – was not online at yesterday day – nor did I write – drat – but so far I 3501 words – I had some written prior to the start of this so I am at 6853 all together. (Hey I doubled it, just noticed that – cool :))

I plan to hit it hard tonight. Do not Sven hunting me down…

I know, I know, I’m late. It’s summer and if I’m not teaching, I lose track of days/dates.

Current word count since Sunday: 8759.

I’m ahead of my goal. Now, if I can just keep it that way . . .

I was without Internet until today. 5250 words through yesterday. Actually it was around 1 this morning, but I started those words yesterday. This was a tough week since I was at yearbook camp in Dallas with 14 students. Worse, the characters weren’t “speaking” to me. I usually can hear them. Not this time. They were completely silent. So I moved forward with plot and wrote every day. AND FINALLY yesterday, they spoke. I could hear them, could see them, could feel them. I think finding their soundtrack helped, but I also think writing through the silence helped. Most of what I wrote until last night will probably be trashed, but lots of interesting character clues are hidden in those pages, so they weren’t wasted.

    Better late than never.

    Words since Sunday -> 3,234

I had some written before the challenge started on my novella. The overall total is 11,515. I am trying to increase the number of words everyday. I have learned it’s better to write now and go back a fix an errors.

I’ve been knocked on my ass with a cold/flu, and my requested revisions take precendence over new stuff, so I can’t give word counts, but I have gone through 70 pages of edits. Hoping to finish revisions this week and then get cracking on new stuff.
