Let’s talk about Leslie Kelly . . .

Because I love what HelenKay did with a stash of books she had, I’m going to do something similar, and probably off and on as I run across things I want to share or pimp or let you know about. Today it’s all about Leslie Kelly and her upcoming HQN release SHE’s NO ANGEL and her connected novella in the anthology HEAT WAVE.

I have three sets of the books to giveaway, and yes there’s a catch. Here it is. To be eligible to receive a set of the books, you must agree to, well, I’m just going to copy what HelenKay wrote because it’s easier than being original:

You have to post about the book on your blog or mine, including information about the book, the cover, links to buy it and to the author, and some editorial comment by you. This “comment” can be a review, can be a bit on why you wanted this book/like this author/what you thought about the book, or something along those lines. You don’t have to love the book. You just need to talk about it and the author who wrote it.

What I’m going to do (which is a bit different than HK’s deal) is give one set of books to a reader who does not have a blog, and a set each to two readers who do have blogs. The reader without a regular blog has to send her review to me and I’ll post it here. The other two readers will post their reviews on their own blogs.

I’ll draw names on Sunday, June 10th, 8:00 p.m.ish CDT. The reviews have to be posted by Saturday, June 30th as these are July releases. That gives you approx 2 1/2 weeks to read and review the novella and the full book. You don’t have to do two separate reviews; you can combine your comments into one. That’s fine!

If you’re still interested and can handle all that, then post a comment here (do NOT email me). You need to tell me that you’re good with the time frame and whether or not you have a blog. If so, post the URL. I’ll also steal borrow the following from HK because it just makes sense

If you are here via one of those online sweepstakes sites, you are not eligible. Sorry, but this is not about getting something free just for the sake of getting something free. I can tell if that’s how you get here. Don’t bother.

-If you get a book, you must post. If you don’t you’re banned. I’ve never banned anyone from my website in my life (except the spammers), but I’ll ban you if you get the book and don’t follow through. Yeah, yeah, yeah, things come up. I know all that. No one understands that better than I do. I’m not talking about that. I’m really directing this at the folks who collect free stuff and run. That’s not cool. The giveaway has a simple rule, so follow it.

You can read an excerpt from the novella, GETTING INTO TROUBLE, at this link, and one from SHE’S NO ANGEL at this link. Enjoy and good luck!!

I don’t have a blog, but those sound hilarious and would be a hoot to read. I don’t consider myself much of a writer but would be happy to write a review for them :)

I would love to participate, but considering the fact that I’m still waiting for the book from you (Alison) from early May I know it is possible for me to meet those tight deadline.

Any chance you might consider a separate draw for an International/Canadian reviewer which doesn’t have such a tight deadline involved?

Hope to get the chance. :)

Sue – I guess I’ll need to dig into what’s left of my supply of copies and send another if that one didn’t reach you.

I’m going to pass even though I adore Leslie’s books – I’m swimming in reader reviews right now, but I highly encourage others to try it. Alison, what a cool thing to do :)

Wow, Alison, thanks so much! I so appreciate this. I have so much riding on She’s No Angel…and I’m hoping that anyone who reads that is just really going to *want* to read the connecting novella, which is why I figued I’d throw it in.

To anyone who enters, thanks also…word of mouth means a whole lot in this business, especially to little fish like me. So I really appreciate your efforts.

    Leslie

PS: HelenKay…whoa I wouldn’t want to run into her in a dark alley…at least not if I was a spammer! lol!

I am a reader who does not have a blog. I participated in this on Helen Kay’s blog and thought it was a pretty cool idea and actually had fun writing the review. I feel that is plenty of time to read the books and put together a review of them. And I’ve never met a Leslie Kelly book I haven’t loved.

How cool! I love that you’re doing this. And, I’m thinking SHE’S NO ANGEL just got a terrific review in the July Romantic Times Magazine. That means this is a really good book. You should all take advantage of this opportunity.

Leslie – those directions do sound a bit threatening, don’t they? Oops! I just wanted to make sure that since people were getting free books, postage paid by me, that the authors of the books received some promo in return. The good news is that I gave away about 15+ books and everyone has been great about posting or emailing me reviews/commentary. The few I’m still waiting for are delayed only because I was late in getting the books out (sorry Sue A.).

Yes, way fierce, HelenKay, but very understandabale! (I actually thought it was very funny and I’m sure your regulars–not the trolls–did too!)

Wow, 15 books, I feel like a cheapskate! Alison, if there’s enough interest, I’d be happy to kick in another set!

    PS: Thanks Cheryl!

I have a place on MySpace if that is consider a blog. I’ve been a big fan of Leslie Kelly’s since I read “Relentless” back in 2001. It would be my pleasure to make her books the first thing I have posted on that blog, I’m very new at that!

Leslie – You’re definitely not a cheapskate! They were 15 books by 15 different authors. They were a bunch of review ARCs I had, most of them were doubles. Just hate to see books go to waste. :)

I love Leslie Kelly’s books!!! I am anxiously awaiting the release of She’s No Angel and Heat Wave. I absolutely loved HelenKay’s book offer. I am finishing up the book she sent me, which has put another author Nina Bangs on my must buy list, and can’t wait to write my review/comments. I am doing the eHarlequin challenge so I would definitely blog about these books on my site there.

Hi – what a great thing to do! I’m a huge Leslie Kelly fan and found out about this on the Plotmonkeys blog this morning. I have absolutely no problem with the time frame and would love the chance to read the books ahead of time and offer a review. I already know they’re going to be great!!

I don’t have a blog – can the review be posted on the Plotmonkey’s blog too (if they want)?

Thanks for doing this. Not only do we get a chance to read the book ahead of time but it gives us the chance to do something for Leslie (which is only fair since she brings us so much enjoyment with her books)!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
    Jodie

Oh my gosh! I’d love to do this! I don’t have a blog but the time frame works for me :)

I also visit the Plotmonkeys daily and am a huge fan of Leslie’s. One of my first jobs (many years ago) was script reading (so I’m good at reading something and commenting on it). And since then I’ve written lots of things (T.V., corporate and web stuff) and I would love to write a review plugging Leslie’s books.

    Thanks for the opportunity!
No matter what, I can’t wait to read them Leslie!

I’ve actually already won She’s No Angel ARC and can tell everyone it was wonderful. I ordered Heat Wave last week and am checking my mail daily for my order.

Thanks so much for the excitement everyone! I hope whoever the winners are (Alison?) will love the books!

And for those who like writing reviews…not just for my book, but for any book, readers truly appreciate reviews on places like Amazon and BN.com, and plugs on reader message boards. Word of mouth is a writer’s best friend and readers are the only one who can offer it.

So big smooches to all of you who do!

I have a question for you. Are the books being sent PRIORITY MAIL? If so, then, count me in for reviewing it on your blog (I don’t have a blog). If they are sent MEDIA MAIL, don’t bother because I won’t get it in time to review it and I don’t want to be banned. thanks!

I never send anything media mail. I entered a writing contest once and sent the books that way. They arrived TWO WEEKS after the contest closing date! So it’ll definitely be by priority.

And honestly, Heat Wave does not even hit stores until around July 10. She’s No Angel is the one I’m desperately anxious about. So a review on that one would be wonderful and we can consider the other just another thank you gift, okay? (Unless you really love it and feel compelled to review it anyway, then have at it and thanks bunches!!)

Oh, and about the banning thing . . . if someone received a book, got waylaid with the day job, or projects for kids for school, etc., that would never be cause for banning. What HelenKay was talking about above, are the people who want freebies, and take them and run, never to be heard from again. It happens. These are the same people who only want to win so they can swap the items on a sweepstakes site. These are the people who banning wouldn’t effect anyway, so obviously the threat is an exaggeration. It’s just that I want to do this for Les, and I don’t want the books to go out and for the winners not to live up to their end of the deal. That’s all!

thanks Leslie for the info…I was just concerned because I would love to review the books (do we have to do just your story or the WHOLE anthology?). I don’t want to be banned because the books wouldn’t get to the winner in a timely manner (since I live on the West Coast, if you East Coasters sent the books out media mail, frankly, with the slowness of the mail system, I would probably get it next year :) and by that time I would be forever banned and hated out of the plotmonkeys, this site and anywhere else I roam). I know this is a business and I am SURE my review would be a positive one since I adore your books. Face it, the fear of God freaks me out :) and just because of a freak of nature, I wouldn’t want to be banned. I now get it. Thanks for clarifying. Face it, I am very anal retentive and always need clarifying!
