Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy, Talyn, and the weather outside IS frightful

First of all, daughter #1 arrived at work Wednesday morning to find the doors locked with an “enter at risk of prosecution” sign. Her woes aside (she knew it was coming – just not how and when), this means I’m now riding the bus to work. This wouldn’t be so bad if on Thursday the temp when I left work wasn’t 39 – that down about 30 degrees from when I caught the bus in the morning, brrr. We finally broke down and turned on the heater in the house for the first time this year. I know. Cry me a river. *g* But we don’t do cold on the Texas Gulf Coast. I had to dig out shoes with heels and toes and find socks to wear to work!

Secondly, don’t miss the HUGE Access Romance holiday prize extravaganza which starts today! My day is the 25th.

Since this is pop culture day, here are a couple of fun tidbits about NBC’s HEROES. “Christopher Eccleston is to star in US TV series Heroes after wowing US audiences with his portrayal of the Time Lord in cult TV show Doctor Who.” And “(…) utterly brilliant bit of casting news, George Takei, Star Trek’s Captain Sulu, will be playing Hiro Nakamura’s father on NBC’s Heroes.”

And a quickie about last night’s Grey’s Anatomy. No real spoiler, but I seriously loved how Dr. Bailey, who had been so harsh and overbearing on Izzie and Yang for their mistakes, stepped back and realized that she as their boss should’ve seen the writing on the wall, seen that something was wrong. Not that they weren’t totally responsible for what they did; they were. But how many times had she wondered what they were doing, what was going on, and done nothing? I like that we saw that part of her as the person in charge, that she knew things weren’t copasetic and owned up to it and admitted to a share of the blame – and that it didn’t make her any less of a good doctor. Nice scene between her and Derek.

Now, on the book front, I found this at Holly Lisle’s site yesterday.

Talyn, Holly LisleTalyn debuts in paperback today. (…) I’m not in danger of having my career killed at the moment, but Hawkspar could easily be the last Tonk/ Korre book. The sale of a third book in the series depends on the paperback success of Talyn. (…) There’s a very narrow time window (about a month) in which the book has a chance to succeed or fail. The clock starts today. If it succeeds, it will get another month. If it fails, though, it will disappear from most of the chains at this time in December, and that will be the kiss of death to Redbird, the third book. If you have been waiting for whatever reason to buy Talyn, now is the time when buying it will make a difference.

I’ve bought 5 copies, and I’m giving them away here. I have the hardcover on my shelf, and am selfish enough to want to see Redbird follow Hawkspar. Everyone who posts a comment here will be eligible to win a copy. Even if you’re not a fantasy reader, you probably know someone who would love TAYLYN as a holiday gift. I’ll draw the 5 winners on Sunday night, December 3rd, 8:00 p.m.ish central.
